Golf Economy is worth $62 Billion. Over the last fifteen years the golf industry has grown quite substantially, far outpacing inflation, and continues to expand in a manner that is consistent with the most optimistic projections made by the National Golf Foundation in the late 1980s.

When you compare sales in other industries, the golf industry, at $62 billion, is doing very good. For example, the sound recording and movie industry measured approximately $57.8 billion in 2000, and the amusement, gambling  and the recreation industry measured about $55.9 billion, according to government census data.

The governing body of golf in the United States is the United States Golf Association (USGA), founded in 1894. This organization, with HQ in Far Hills, New Jersey, make the rules that govern ball and club specifications and other such regulations such as hazards and scoring. It liaises with the Royal and Ancient Club of St. Andrews when reviewing international rules.
