How to get recruited.

Letter of introduction to the college coach

applying for a sports scholarship

by now that you have a list of potential colleges that you want to attend, it’s time to contact the coach at each school. The simplest way to do this is to send a highlights DVD along with your resume and a letter of introduction.

The DVD should be from one of your better games and highlights of other games and maybe an interview with your high school coach. College coaches are very busy so only make a copy of the section of the game in which you are featured.

The letter should be personalized and to the point. Take the time to find out the coaches’ names, and don't ever start a letter with “Dear Coach:” or something equally generic. In the body of the letter, state your interest in attending that college (again, don’t go generic—make sure you name that college) and playing on their team. Describe your personal work ethics and motivation.

Make sure you include the following information in the letter:

Home.
About Us.
FAQ's.
Timeline.

$250 Essay
Competition.

Make your introduction letter short and to the point. Save the details and game statistics for your athletic résumé.
