NINTH STRAIGHT WIN FOR UCLA

Many now think that Alabama's season is finished, under ordinary circumstances a very unimpressive eighteen to thirteen record. But anyone who followed the journey of this Alabama team has to give credit to Coach Mark Gottfried and the 7 young men who made it happen.

Originally it appeared Alabama had 9 players for this season. But the Tide’s top player, Chuck Davis, was lost for the year on January seven in the first Southeastern Conference game of the year. And then another player quit.

Alabama was always going to be the underdog to the bruins Bruins, they fell behind by 8-0 at the start the game, but came back to take a slender lead. At halftime the game was tied at 30-30.

Alabama had another bad start in the second 1/2 as UCLA scored the first 5 points. Alabama did tie the score at 38-38. A moment later UCLA got the lead and the Tide could never catch up, although Alabama got to within a point on a couple of occasions.

Number 2 seed UCLA will play third-seeded Gonzaga in Oakland, trying to get back to the Final 4 for the first time since their 1995 national championship.

The Bruins hung on for their 9th consecutive win despite missing 7 of nine free throws.

Ronald Steele scored twenty-one points for tenth-seeded Alabama, which had 7 players available. 3 players in uniform were walk-ons who didn't see any action. Leading scorer Chuck Davis went down with a season-ending knee injury last January.

Brandon Roy helped steer Washington back from an eleven-points down in the 2nd half and the Huskies beat Illinois 67-64.

“I get all kinds of questions from parents about what drinks are best for kids when playing sports,” said Berning, a nutrition consultant for the Denver Broncos and Cleveland Indians. “Most parents don’t realize that all beverages are not created equal when it comes to hydrating active children.”
