The Athletics Office of Compliance of Alabama State University commits to function as directed by the regulations of the University, the NCAA and the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The vision of the office is to create a program in the areas of education, institutional control and rules violation prevention. It also aims to maintain high standards of excellence and professionalism by fostering respect, communication and teamwork among members. It also promotes regard for ethical conduct and integrity as all work together in fostering an environment that lives the operating principles of the NCAA, which encourage equity and equality, individual empowerment and personal welfare of student-athletes.

Athletics Programs of Alabama State University

Alabama State University’s teams play men’s and women’s sports like baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, indoor and outdoor track, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. The university continues to play against rival universities like Murray State University, FedEx Memphis Intercollegiate, New Orleans, UNC Asheville, University of Arkansas-Pine Buff, Jacksonville State University, Savannah State University, Presbyterian College, Louisiana-Monroe and California Poly Pomona.

OFFICIAL SPORTS TEAM: Hornets

The Alabama State University Hornets take pride in bringing home recognitions by members of the different sports teams. The bowling team of the ASU Hornets was given recognition by the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) for being tied as the nation’s top team GPA honors. RB Isaiah Crowell is National Player of the Year candidate. Alexandra Cannon is SWAC Preseason Player of the Year. The men’s and women’s golf programs won the SWAC Championship in the same season for the first time in the university’s history. Brooke Beasley, a junior setter, was announced by SWAC as Setter of the Week.
