Bacone College Athletic Scholarships
Bacone College, located in Muskogee, Oklahoma, is a private four-year liberal arts institution. The college, originally the Indian University, was founded in 1880. Today, Bacone College is the oldest higher education institution in Oklahoma State. Bacone College is affiliated with the Baptist Church as well as a number of Native American tribes, such as the Cherokee and Muscogee Creek. Bacone College offers a total of 29 associate and bachelor degrees in various fields of study, with academic departments being divided into the following: Division of Arts and Sciences, Division of American Indian Studies, School of Education, Division of Adult Education, and the Division of General Studies. The college has a student body of only 900, many of whom are of Native American descent.
Athletics Department at Bacone College
The athletics department at Bacone College seeks to provide student-athletes with a complete and enriching college experience that incorporates sports and an active, healthy lifestyle with academic study. In addition to varsity sports, the athletics department has certified athletic trainers and health professionals who work to support the needs of student-athletes, such as dietary issues or athletic injuries.
Athletic facilities at Bacone College include both on-campus and off-campus facilities. Facilities include the Indian Bowl for football and soccer practices and games, the Warrior Baseball Field and Warrior Softball Field, the Warriors Rodeo Arena, the Palmer Center for basketball, as well as the Muskogee Civic Center.
Athletic Programs at Bacone College
Varsity sports at Bacone College include men’s football, soccer, basketball, baseball, and wrestling as well as women’s volleyball, soccer, softball and basketball. Co-ed varsity sports include cross country, rodeo and track and field. Three club sports – cheerleading, golf, and bowling – are offered as alternatives for students who would like to participate in non-varsity athletics. There are no intramural sports or group exercise classes offered at Bacone College.
Official Sports Team: Warriors
The Bacone Warriors are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and varsity teams compete in the Red River Athletic Conference and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, while the football team competes independently in the Central States Football League. The Bacone Warriors uphold the name of Bacone College in intercollegiate competitions at both the regional and national levels.
Guide to Athletic Scholarships for Bacone College
Both merit and need-based scholarships are available at Bacone College. All students applying for scholarships must complete the online Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. Scholarships at Bacone College are only awarded to full-time students and are non-cash awards that go towards tuition fee expenses.
Athletic scholarships are available for student-athletes who participate in a varsity sport and maintain a GPA of 2.0. The average athletic scholarship will cover for 37% of tuition fees and room and board.
Other scholarships that are available include the Admissions Ambassadors Scholarship that covers about 25% of tuition expenses; the Bacon Scholars Society Scholarship for freshmen who live on-campus and covers up to 100% of tuition expenses; the Presidential Scholarship which pays for 75% of tuition expenses; and the Opportunity Scholarship and the Success Scholarship, both of which are renewable and cover for 25% of tuition expenses. There are also a number of academic program scholarships for freshmen that require nomination in Art, Criminal Justice, Journalism and Education.
