Barry University Athletic Scholarships
Barry University was founded in 1940 and is a private liberal arts Catholic university with ties to the Dominican tradition. It’s located in Miami, Florida and has a student body of more than 2,700 undergraduate students and 3,700 graduate students. The university’s School of Law is in Orlando, and there are many other locations throughout the state where classes are also offered. There are also many online programs as well as a study option in the Bahamas. Barry University offers more than 100 degree programs at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels. There are also many internship opportunities in well-known organizations and companies to help students gain valuable work experience. There is also a study abroad program as well as an honors program for students who excel academically and would like more challenge.
Athletics Department at Barry University
The athletics department at Barry University offers varsity sports as well as student-athlete support services such as athletic training and sports medicine. Athletic scholarships are available for all varsity sports: basketball, golf, soccer, baseball, tennis, softball, rowing, and volleyball. Eligibility is based on athletic performance and is determined by the team coach.
Athletic Programs at Barry University
Varsity sports at Barry University include men’s baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis and golf, as well as women’s basketball, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, volleyball and rowing. Intramural sports at Barry University include leagues in flag football, kickball, basketball, dodgeball, soccer and bowling, and tournaments in softball, table tennis, wiffleball, and soccer. All intramural are offered on a seasonal basis. The fitness center also has cardio and weight machines, and wellness classes such as aerobic exercise, boot camp, cardio challenge and personal training.
Official Sports Team: The Buccaneers
The Barry Buccaneers are members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II and participate in the Sunshine State Conference. The Buccaneers hold 11 national championships in women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s golf, men’s tennis, and women’s tennis. They also hold 52 Sunshine State Conference titles, the most being in men’s tennis, women’s tennis, volleyball and women’s soccer. The Buccaneers also excel in academics, holding a total of 299 Scholar All-Americans.

Barry University has a comprehensive scholarship program offering academic merit scholarships based on GPA and SAT or ACT scores. More than 90% of students at Bard University receive financial assistance, with many receiving scholarships and grants to help fund their education. Financial aid eligibility is determined only after students have submitted the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, which is a requirement when applying for scholarships at Barry University. Scholarships worth as much as $17,500 are awarded annually. There are Barry Scholarships and Barry Access Grants. Barry scholarships are for incoming freshmen and transfer students and are renewable as long as GPA is maintained at 2.5 or higher. Barry Access Grants are financial need awards and amounts awarded vary. For students who participate in varsity sports and demonstrate athletic excellence are eligible for a number of athletic grants.
